Day 20: Fakin' Bacon!

I just had to share what my breakfast was yesterday morning:

Tempeh Fakin' Bacon...when I opened the package, it kind of smelled like a dog treat, for some reason. :-) I just cooked it over the stove with some olive oil, and it started getting crispy just like real bacon.  I have to say, it was quite yummy for having no meat in it!  The texture is definitely different from the real deal, but it was quite a treat!
(this isn't a picture of my bacon, but it looks just like it - from vegancrunk.blogspot.com)

I also poured myself some unsweetened almond milk.  I had never tried it just by itself before - I had used it in my Groovy Smoothie, but I had never drank it on its own.  Mmm, mmm, mmm!  I recommend you go out and try some now, because it's pretty darn good, and it doesn't come with any of the dangers of cow milk.

I also had a banana.  That's not new, but still tasty.

QUESTION FOR YOU: Have you ever tried a meat substitute?  Fakin bacon, Tofurkey, or something else?

  1. haha, I enjoyed the part about the banana. ;) tempeh bacon is awesome! I love it mixed in with scrambled tofu, or in a breakfast sandwich. yummers. now that I've tried so many great tasting mock meats and delicious almond milk, it seems so sad that most of the country is still consuming so many animal products, which are so harmful to us and the planet. all it takes is an open mind to try new things, and it could change the way you eat forever.
as the great plex sang on yo gabba gabba...
"I know it's new, and you've never tasted it. you'll just have to trust in me, just give it a try! try it, you'll like it!" lol. I use that on trav all the time.

  2. Hi Kelly!! What an awesome blog!! I'm so glad that you are enjoying your cleanse and new way of eating!! I LOVE meat substitutes like Tofurky!! We have two definite favs. The first is Yves veggie ground or Smart Ground to use in tacos or YUMMY chili in the cooler weather. So SUPER easy to use, none of that pre- cooking or nasty raw meat smell like ground meat! Our second fav is Trafer Joe's soy and veggie Chorrizo, delicious!!! I like using it in Paella, yum! Okay, gotta stop, I'm getting so hungry with all of this food talk:). I love your blog!!

  3. Hey Jennifer! I didn't know you were a vegetarian!! That's so cool - I'll have to ask you for some more of your ideas and recipes, since I'm new to this. :-) I actually JUST bought the taco filling at TJ's yesterday...I think I'll make them tonight or this weekend!

Steff, to quote another Yo Gabba Gabba song, my meal was "a party in my tummy...so yummy! So yummy!"

  4. hahaha, good one. I like everything Jennifer mentioned too. also, if you stir-fry crumbled tofu with taco seasoning, it makes for a delicious taco! Carson was skeptical at first, but is now a believer in the powers of tofu. ;)
